Updates on the congressional blackout

An addendum to my previous live post on the issue.

While President Bush does have the Constitutional authority to reconvene congress, the White House has issued a statement saying that the president will not invoke this privilege:

““We don’t have plans to call Congress into session — it won’t make a difference if Democratic leaders are unwilling to bring up a bill for an up-down vote,” said White House spokesman Tony Fratto.”

Even if they think it won’t make a difference – something with which I disagree – Bush should do it anyway. Give the Democrats another chance to make complete asses of themselves, stall democracy, and deny the people results. Give the Democratic congress another chance to show the country how they’ve earned that historically-low approval rating.
