Two derptastic examples of reporting this afternoon:

Police in Federal Heights are investigating the shooting death of a woman who was killed by a bullet from her recently purchased assault-style rifle.

Excuse me, a what?

What the hell is an “assault-style rifle?”

… described the rifle as an assault weapon, an AK-47 or similar style rifle …

Again, what?

“Similar style rifle?” As in it’s similar to a fully automatic rifle? Is it a fully automatic rifle?

Enter HuffPo, who, like many websites, think that simply rewriting wire stories is original content. Ta da!

A Denver-area woman died Tuesday night after an assault rifle she was handling accidentally fired and shot her in the head.

Witnesses told ABC Denver affiliate KMGH that Anastasia Adair, 22, was passing an AK-47-style assault rifle to her husband, Dana “Shane” Adair, when the gun went off.

WHAT IS AN “ASSAULT-STYLE” RIFLE.

Was it a regular rifle made up to look like an AK-47? Like this pellet gun (below) is made to look like an AR-15?

If something is an “assault rifle” it’s a rifle capable of select fire and they’ve been banned since the 60s.

If it’s an “assault style,” that’s a made-up term by people who have no idea what they’re talking about and think that the paint job on a gun can make it shoot magic bullets.

Either way, in the era of information, it’s amazing that no one takes the time to Google basic phrases and facts before slapping their byline on it and sending it out into the world.

*Edited to add: Obviously this couple did not handle their firearms responsibly. To use their mistake as an indictment of all gun owners is like using Nickelback as an indictment of all bands and banning instruments.

**Another addendum: Obviously the gun made the couple get drunk and irresponsibly handle their firearms.

Piers Morgan: Hey, Maybe Government Can Be Tyrannical Afterall

“I’ve had some of the pro-gun lobbyists on here, saying to me, ‘Well, the reason we need to be armed is because of tyranny from our own government,’ and I’ve always laughed at them,” Morgan said last night. “But, actually, this is vaguely tyrannical behavior by the American government.”

Morgan and I have clashed over, and over, and over, and over on this issue. In fact, I’m scheduled to be on with him sometimes next week and I’m sure it will come up once again. Maybe he just honestly doesn’t see that tyranny happens. I get it: the United States is the greatest country in the world, we have freedoms here you can’t get anywhere else, eagles, apple pie, Reagan, corndogs, super sizes because x-large” is insufficient, I get it, we rock. That said, tyranny is just a generation away. A government big enough to give you everything is big enough to take it away and we’re witnessing that right now. We saw it under Jackson with American Indians and their genocidal relocation. Tyranny has already happened in the United States.

In my state of Missouri we’ve already had an IRS-esque scandal. Tyranny, it’s happening. I would love for my government to be small and function perfectly, but unfortunately I wasn’t alive during the New Deal when the worst reforms which kicked us down this path began to take shape. I’m glad that Morgan at least sees a slice of the true nature of big government.

Think about this also: the door swings both ways. If progressives sanction this sort of behavior from a Democrat administration, then they sanction it with Republicans in charge. Can you imagine Republicans using the IRS to persecute every liberal group that applies for tax exempt status? Can you see them harassing 500 groups like what’s happened now? Can you see a GOP-led IRS auditing reporters, seizing phone records of the AP off bunk allegations? Are Democrats OK with that? Why are conservatives the only ones warning about this?

Why Does Sarah Hall Ingram Still Have A Job?

Mystifying. Sarah Hall Ingram, the IRS employee in charge of the tax-exempt organizations during the Spanish Inquisition of the tea party, is not only still employed, but was promoted to oversee Obamacare within the IRS. Yes, the woman who remained silent when her department figured out whether or not they should stop targeting tea partiers, Jewish groups, and pro-lifers a year before former IRS commish Doug Shulman testified before two House committees is now in charge of the office which determines whether or not you get health care.

Totally legit, right? Progressives say Steve Miller pretending to leave the IRS three weeks earlier than scheduled due to “punishment” is enough. Why aren’t the heads rolling of the people who matter, who oversaw the persecution, and who remained silent?

Why are our tax dollars paying the salary of a woman who oversees the persecution of the people who pay her salary if she doesn’t like their politics?

As I wrote earlier:

The very official who oversaw rampant discrimination and illegal persecution is in charge of Obamacare. Do you trust these people to allow you the best care possible? I don’t.

GOP should shut it down, all of government, no debt ceiling discussion, no anything discussion until special prosecutors outside of the admin are appointed, Ingram and others are fired.
